Raise the Roof Fundraising Campaign

Preserving its heritage, facilitating its future

St Machar’s is embarking on an ambitious programme of works in 2020. This will involve re-slating the roof, cleaning the heraldic ceiling, and repairing some of the stained glass windows. This project will cost £1.85m. Some £1.5m has been raised with a further £350,000 required

How you can help

Support the Raise the Roof campaign. Buy a new slate for £10, or buy slates for every member of the family. The name of everyone who buys a slate will be put on a scroll which will be placed in a time capsule and preserved in the roofspace.

Support the Clean a Shield campaign. There are 48 heraldic shields on the ceiling; a gift of £500 will help to clean and to preserve one of these magnificent works of art dating from 1520

Cheques made payable to ‘St Machar’s Cathedral’ can be sent to: The Treasurer, St Machar’s Cathedral, The Chanonry, Aberdeen AB24 1RQ

Please make sure that your donation is covered by a gift-aid declaration.

Gifts can be put in the donation box in the Cathedral using the envelopes provided. Small gifts can be made in the Cathedral using the contactless terminal.

Every donor’s name, whether purchasing a slate, cleaning a shield, or making a major donation, will be recorded in a special donor’s book which will be preserved in the Cathedral’s archives
