Resumption of Worship
As most are now aware, the First Minister has announced the end to compulsory mask wearing in public in Scotland. Masks will cease to be mandatory in just over a fortnight, and we have been promised more detailed guidance from the Scottish Government shortly. In the meantime, churches and places of funerals and weddings will not be required to enforce mask wearing with effect from 03/04/22.
We have discussed this matter at Kirk Session and, having regard to the level of cases in our area, and the fact that further guidance is shortly to be issued, we would recommend that people continue to wear masks in church at least for the next few weeks. This is not mandatory, and we will not refuse admission to anyone who feels that it is no longer appropriate to wear a mask. But we feel that a cautious approach is the correct one as we edge slowly out of a long and difficult situation.
We will keep the matter under close review and report on further guidance as we receive it. And we shall continue to make available seating on the north aisle where people who wish to retain not only mask wearing, but also some degree of Social Distancing may be accommodated.
