Visitors to the Cathedral
It was great to visit Old Aberdeen and St Machars and talk about the time we lived there and attended St Machars in 1976/77 when my husband John, was doing his PHD under Professor Andrew Walls in the Religious Studies Department.
It was suggested I send a photo of the canvas embroidery I did of Old Aberdeen while we were there which may be suitable for St Machar's website. As you can see, I have opened out the High St and taken some liberties with placing Bishop Elphingstone to suit my purposes. The picture includes things which were significant to our family including the house in Orchard St where we lived, St Machar's Hall where my little girls went to Playgroup and gatehouse at St Machars where kind older ladies ran a creche which the children enjoyed
Old Aberdeen doesn't change much, and it was great to visit old haunts with our oldest daughter, Rachel, and her family. Since our days in Aberdeen I've done many canvas embroideries of different things have have inspired me, but our second daughter,Joanna, who was a toddler when we were in Aberdeen, still likes this one the best.
